Looking Within

I have seen Elaine’s work and have always been amazed by her energy and loose, fast brush strokes. Spaces full of light and color, freshness; large dimensions defying the easy.

An obsession with the face seen as a cosmos. Emerging apparitions, inquisitive presences, memories of the memory.

There is a singular vision of seeing and appreciating the human figure: there is an atmosphere of authenticity in her attitude, an understood process, a benign game between human figure and abstraction. Elaine’s vision signals to other figurative painters to break with the academic, abandon traditional regression, and contribute forms and content of contemporary expression.

Looking seems to be an inexhaustible practice in an increasingly visual world, being the object of gazes is also an increasingly general concern, which is why MIRADADENTRO (Looking within) can be a difficult task and to some extent strange since the artifices are weakened.

Elaine Kemp dares to look inside, armed with pure honesty, retreats to the silence of her study, away from everything and everyone to get closer to herself and finds herself, she does not set limits to draw, to gesticulate her emotions in intense colors deeper. Her large canvases impact us with faces that, far from pleasing beauty, shake us as a metaphor for our own gaze within.
